How to Prevent Acne in and Around Your Beard

Acne can really put a damper on growing your beard, but there are several ways to knock down this annoying situation.

How to Prevent Acne Around Your Beard

Always use a gentle facial cleanser. The easiest thing to do for men with beards is to opt for a face wash that’s also a beard wash, so that if it gets in your beard it won’t be an issue. Bannerman Beard & Face Wash contains chamomile to fight inflammation and lemongrass to give your beard a boost.

Moisturizer is crucial for both beard care and skin care. What a lot of people don’t realize is that dry skin causes zits, because your body thinks your skin isn’t oily enough and starts producing more oil, which then causes more dirt and dead skin to stick in your pores. Likewise, guys with oily skin should always use moisturizer, because it will signal to your body that you have enough oil on your face and it doesn’t have to make extra anymore. Applying daily moisturizer breaks both of those cycles.

Once again, I would suggest going with a moisturizer for both beard and face, such as InstaNatural Organic Argan Oil. Argan oil is a lightweight oil, so it won’t weigh down your beard or clog your pores. For beards, it can easily function as a leave-in conditioner.

Generally, getting on a good moisturizer regimen will knock down beard acne. That said, if you’re a teenager, or you have severe forms of acne, it’s a different story entirely. In those cases, the beard may offer some protection; however, in other guys, they have large, painful zits all throughout their beard.

If you choose to use an over-the-counter acne medication in the beard area, opt for one containing salicylic acid instead of benzoyl peroxide, which can actually bleach your beard. Even worse, it can damage the hair shaft, so it’s one to avoid when possible.

If home remedies aren’t working for you, get to your doc. Some types of acne, like cystic acne, can be cured with antibiotics. Sometimes, facial zits aren’t even zits but are actually a staph infection, which is another reason to check with your doc if your zits don’t go away with daily facial care.
